20 Days, 20 German Towns: Nuremberg

OK, so I’m just a bit behind on these posts, and we fly out later this afternoon, so I’m going to squeeze a few in!

Nuremberg was one of the very first weekend trips we took when we got here. The town is best known outside of Germany for the Nuremberg Trials that took place here after WWII, but before that, it was a place of great strategic importance to Hitler and the Nazi Party. It was where Hitler passed the laws against Jewish people and other non-Aryans, held numerous Nazi rallies and conventions, and built monuments and museums to Nazi ideals.

While I’m interested in all of that, it was early in our stay here and we didn’t want to overwhelm our kids with this dark period in German history right away. So we focused on the beauty of the Danube, the delicious Nuremberg sausages and kraut, and the nearby Playmobil FunPark (which, I cannot believe they were young enough to still enjoy, but they did!). Instead of being an overwhelming introduction to the country, we found Nuremberg to be beautiful, peaceful, and romantic.
