Today‘s city is Wiesbaden, sister city to Mainz just across the Rhine River. Rowan has a couple of friends that live here, so we spend a good deal of time making the 40-minute drive for parties and sleepovers and the like.
Wiesbaden has a beautiful town park, French-like architecture, and another set of hot springs bubbling up from the ground (pro tip: any town in Germany with the word ‚Bad‘ in it likely has springs, a bath/sauna complex, and a casino – these are Germany‘s old resort towns).
I like this town simply as a nice diversion from Frankfurt – smaller and more beautiful, with all the shops and cafes you could want, easy to park, and with the American military base nearby, you‘re likely to overhear a little bit of American English as you stroll along.
