20 Days, 20 German Towns: Bad Soden

Bad Soden is another Taunus town that is famous for having healthy mineral water running below the ground. Throughout the town’s main park, you come across a variety of fountains, all with different designs and all with signage telling you how much of each mineral you’ll be drinking at each particular fountain – including sodium, phosphorous, and even arsenic content. Based on the rotten-egg sulfur smell, the kids and I weren’t too keen to try any of them, but as always, Matt was a great sport:

Bad Soden is also the home to Germany’s version of Gaudi architecture – Mr. Hundertwasser – and he is responsible for this amazing yet somewhat crazy multi-family home located amidst the half-timbered houses:

The other cool feature of this town was a 100-year old fountain made of old-timey metal statues of people whose appendages you could move:
