Rüdesheim is a picture-perfect town in the beautiful grape-growing Rhine region. It‘s a popular start/finish place for Rhine river cruises, with a well-preserved Old Town, half-timbered buildings, tiny passageways, and plenty of little shops to while away an afternoon. Rüdesheim is one of those places that are a bit touristy, but for good reason – it‘s impossible to walk around without feeling at least a little bit like you‘re in a fairy tale.
We went to Rüdesheim in Summer 2020 as the pandemic’s first wave was seeming to ease. It was a really fun round-trip with a chairlift to the top of the vineyard ridge, a hike along the Rhine to Assmannshasusen (still my favorite German town name), and a boat cruise from Assmannshausen back to Rüdesheim. If we‘d only known at the time how lucky we‘d had it to have these outdoor activities open!!!
